Be more like Joey.

…..Anyways here’s another beautifully done custom Ducati Scrambler by Joey Landry for a customer in Shippagan, N-B. We are also absolutely, positively convinced that no one else has a bike like this one in her area.

DUCATI SCRAMBLER PARTS

CUSTOM PAINTED + LEATHER WRAPPED GAS TANK

As excited as we can be to dive straight into the new pieces that make up this Scrambler, it’s important to take a look at the body work that separates this motorcycle from its now distant cousins. Champlain Auto Body, spitting distance from Atlantic Motoplex, gave this bike a sleek, charming look by toning things down and opting for a cool blue colorway. While most stock models are dressed in bright and glossy armor, a simple yet outstanding leather wrap on the outer area ensured that the tank remained unique and detailed, all while working in synergy with the seat, fork and engine. We’d also like to mention that Dog House Cycles completed the body work with a seemingly flawless powder coat application.

RIZOMA CAFE RACER GAS CAP

A simple and stunning addition to any custom project, the Cafe Racer gas cap offers added safety with a custom key-ring that locks the cap tightly shut. As some of you may not know, Rizoma has been consistently producing some of the highest quality products straight out of Italy, and this piece comes with everything needed to quickly switch out your old gas cap for this one. Don’t worry, they also provide an extra key just in case you lock yourself out of your own gas tank.

RIZOMA SPEEDO RELOCATION BRACKET + HANDLEBARS WITH 1 1/8″ RISERS

By relocating the gauge in a more central position, the Rizoma speedo relocation bracket feels like a no-brainer when you look at the bike from a rider’s perspective. Lining up perfectly with the cafe racer gas cap, the gauge flows much better in this position, which adds to the overall appearance of the motorcycle. The center console area is also cleaned up with the help of new fat bar tapered handlebars sitting on 1 1/8″ risers.

PIRELLI MT21 (FRONT) & CONTINENTAL TKC80 (REAR)

While most people think that the Scramblers will never make it to the dirt roads (or any roads for that matter), a good set of tires can definitely give you enough confidence to take this bike out of your garage. Joey went with an unorthodox approach by combining two different tires on the same bike.

The Pirelli MT21 caters to a specific rider, one that wants a serious off-road piece of rubber that will keep him from falling down or loosing steam when hitting the most treacherous terrain. And with a tread pattern designed for extremely stable handling, there’s not much you can’t do in the dirt with this one.

The Continental TKC80, however, is a very good on-road tire, and with its self cleaning tread pattern, I guess you’ll have one less thing to clean when you come back to your showroom… Ehhh, I mean garage. By combining a more aggressive off-road tire in front with a 40/60 tire in the back, the Scrambler is much more versatile. Mind you, the TKC80 still has good off-road capabilities and offers good grip control.

TERMIGNONI D023TRB SLIP-ON EXHAUST

No Ducati project is complete without a Termignoni piece. Simply put, there’s just something about combining Italian parts with Italian bikes. Plus we’re pretty sure they’re now exclusive, so don’t think about breaking up that relationship.

O.K but for real, if you’re in the market for a new exhaust and don’t want to put a big dent in your wallet, opting for a slip-on instead of a full system can save you a few $$$ that can be used towards other pieces. You’ll still enjoy some performance boost and your bike will sound great.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Since most people have a short attention span, we didn’t want to put anyone to sleep by going on and on with the fine details. Plus, by now we probably lost most readers to a Youtube cat video, but it’s important to mention a few other pieces that really bring everything together.

The Rizoma license plate relocator is a great addition to the Scrambler if you’re looking keep your plate on your bike for obvious legal reasons. It also ensures that the plate blends in, but is also visible to naked eye.

The Ducati Headlight guard will definitely keep your front light safe when you decide to channel your inner Tarzan while embarking on a journey into the jungle.

Finally, the Rizoma bar end mirrors are one of our favorite pieces on this project. The stock Scrambler mirrors are honestly an eye-sore, and with safety in mind, it’s an obvious choice for Ducati when they are trying to sell bikes to a specific type of rider. But we’re in the business of making your bike look like the one in your dreams.

And that’s a wrap! Tune in next week when we transform a Harley into an R1.

“How do you reach out to new customers?” is a question being thrown around a lot lately. And with big manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson breaking the status quo by trading in “big, shiny and traditional” for “affordable, simple and attainable”, it’s no secret that we could see a “changing of the guard” in the motorcycle industry over the next few years. Nothing makes this more obvious than the return of vintage, compact, basic and fun bikes that seem to cater to a specific demographic: the millennials. But what have new owners done to make theirs stand out?

Joey Landry, our parts specialist and ”go-to” guy for custom projects, has been working hard this past year in order to completely revamp his 2015 Triumph Scrambler. And although he may fall into the millennial category, there’s no question that a huge part of his passion for motorcycles comes from a more traditional, old-school era.  With the help of a few friends, tons of coffee and some old fashioned “TLC”, he was able to create a moving work of art. Here’s a breakdown on what makes this bike so unique.

IMG_4143

 MAD SQUIRREL LEATHER SADDLE BAGS

Thimotée Richard, the brainchild behind Bobber boyz & Mad Squirrel Leather, has been doing custom work for the past decade on everything motorcycle related. Custom painted helmets, saddle bags, tank bags, custom bags and seats are just a few things that Thimotée produces with his own distinct twist.

For Joey’s Scrambler, custom tan leather saddle bags provide support for carrying small to medium sized items such as keys, wallet, pop cans and gloves, all while staying true to the “vintage” theme. These bags are quite weather resistant and don’t break down easily as they are made of genuine leather from only the best cows. With safety in mind, sturdy leather straps with tough buckles keep your objects safe from falling out and leaving you dry while you ride solo or with your crew.

BRITISH CUSTOMS LEATHER SLAMMER SEAT

Sitting on a piece of wood wasn’t really an option (although the color would’ve matched well with the saddle bags), so Joey went with a modern classic: the British Customs leather slammer seat.

With comfort in mind, the gel insert provides ample support for solo or two-up riding, and well-detailed embroidery adds extra flair to an already great looking bike. With minimalism in mind, the Slammer seat provides viewing room for pieces that would normally be hidden by stock seats.

CUSTOM PAINT by Kris Bourque

Local artist Kris Bourque was brought in to give the Scrambler a distinct look. Coming from a tattoo shop, Hell or High Water, Kris Bourque did most of his work “free-hand”. The front fender, rear fender, side covers and gas tank have been detailed with free-flowing lines and curves that accentuate the bike perfectly. The light blue paint helps bring out those free-handed lines and doesn’t overpower the leather seat and saddle bags.

IMG_4145.JPG

KENDA BIG BLOCKS

Although the Triumph Scrambler comes from a racing background, its capabilities go far beyond the track. This compact motorcycle can handle a substantial amount of abuse even when brought off-road.

Kenda Big block front and rear tires are designed to match their rider; a die-hard adventurist who isn’t afraid of getting the most out of his bike and journey. Throw anything at these tires and you’ll be surprised at how well they perform (or you can just go ahead and wheelie through the closest suburb if you’re into that…)

JOKER MACHINE FRONT SPROCKET GUARD

A great addition to the Scrambler is the Joker Machine sprocket guard. Surprisingly easy to install, this sprocket guard is much lighter and increases foot clearance. And with its raw, simple and almost “unfinished” feel, it’s basically a “must-have” for any custom project with an “old-school” approach.

ARROW EXHAUST

The Arrow 2:1 exhaust brings everything together. With high performance in mind, a weight reduction of 70% probably won’t teach you how to wheelie, but this exhaust will definitely ensure that you’re heard since it’s designed for off-road use. One more reason to go camping right?

And that just about about wraps it up! Even though there are many more pieces that make up Joey’s Scrambler, remember that we have access to some of the best brands in the industry, so don’t be afraid to grab a cup of coffee (some for Joey too!) and drop by for a consultation or a peak through our books for inspiration.

For so long, Triumph has tried to keep their bikes as “original” as possible, and this year is no exception. With 2015 marking the 10th anniversary of the Rocket, 3 bikes have been given a “limited edition” twist in order to celebrate the history of the British manufacturer. The Thruxton Ace, Thunderbird Nightstorm and Rocket X are sure to surprise most as these motorcycles have been given cool “new” features, a unique look, and most of all, stay true to Triumph’s rich history of producing classic motorcycles with vintage styling, all while staying true to their roots.

Let’s take a quick look at what special editions models Triumph has to offer for 2015 which we are pleased to have in our showroom come spring.

TRIUMPH THRUXTON ACE SPECIAL EDITION

Triumph Thruxton Ace special edition

  • Price: $11,599.00 (+freight/pdi)
  • Engine: Four stroke, parallel twin (4 valve per cylinder)
  • Capacity: 865cc
  • Cooling System: Air-cooled
  • Horsepower: 68hp @ 7400rpm
  • Torque: 50ft-lb @ 5800rpm
  • Fuel Capacity: 16L
  • Consumption: (@120km/h) 4.2L/100km

In order to celebrate the link between the Ace cafe, a biker hangout in London, England, and the cafe racer movement of the 60’s, Triumph has released a special edition Thruxton that blends vintage styling, careful branding and time-tested components to create a wonderful replica of their iconic bike.

At first glance, what really stands out is the oxblood colored seat, the wired spoke rims, as well as a handful of Ace Cafe logos placed carefully across the motorcycle. Powered by the trustworthy parallel twin found on the Bonneville, the Thruxton Ace has no trouble acting the way it should…Like a badass cafe racer, of course.

Finally, stopping power is provided by disc brakes from Nissin, and your ride is softened by a 41mm fork and twin rear shocks, all by KYB. Simply put, if you’re looking to make a statement or be the talk of the town, the Thruxton Ace is by far the best starting point. Riding it correctly though, is all down to you.

Bottom line: The Thruxton Ace has a limited production number (325 made for the US), has a reasonable price tag compared to the Thruxton base model, and provides you with a great taste of history.

Who is this for: Led Zeppelin lovers, that guy who still talks about “Dark Side of The Moon” as the best album ever, the motorcycle guru who not only collects, but appreciates a well-made, history-rich bike, or the “cool” dad.

Triumph Thunderbird NightStorm special edition

Triumph-Thunderbird-Nightstorm-6598

  •  Price: $17,299.00 (+freight/pdi)
  • Capacity: 1699cc
  • Cooling System: Liquid-cooled
  • Horsepower: 98hp @ 5200rpm
  • Torque: 115ft-lb @ 2950rpm
  • Fuel Capacity: 21.9L
  • Consumption: (@90km/h) 5L/100km

We love blacked-out bikes, and the Thunderbird Nightstorm leaves us wondering if there’s actually anything cooler than lack components on a bike. With a laid-back riding position, the intimidating 1699cc engine and overall look of the bike will please riders who demand an edgy bike with lots of power.

When you look closely, you’ll notice the tank has “ghost” flames, created by using two shades of black, which really gives the bike more than just a usual blacked-out look. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the tank is hand painted. The exhaust offers a powerful, roaring sound, and all chrome has been stripped away to give it that “evil” look.

The Thunderbird comes with standard ABS, provides road-gripping stopping power with two front discs joined with four piston calipers, and blows are softened by a 47mm Showa fork and preload adjustable twin rear shocks.

Bottom line: Powerful, reliable, stable and responsive at various speeds, the Thunderbird Nightstorm is one of the most well-balanced cruisers for 2015. Again, production will be limited, so we’re thinking you may not want to “sleep on it”, but you may actually want to sleep with it.

Who is this for: The next Bond villain

Triumph Rocket X Limited Edition

maxresdefault

  • Price: $19,099 (+freight/pdi)
  • Engine: In-line 3 cylinder (12 valve)
  • Capacity: 2,294cc
  • Cooling System: Liquid-cooled
  • Horsepower: 148hp @ 5750rpm
  • Torque: 163ft-lb @ 2750rpm
  • Fuel Capacity: 24L
  • Consumption: N/A

The Rocket III has always been produced as a bike that everyone needs to ride at least once in their life. So, how do you celebrate its 10th anniversary? Well, start off by placing the largest production engine on the planet, invite paint specialists “8 Ball” over to give it a custom look, and throw in a ton of blacked-out components.

At first glance, you’ll notice that the mudguards and tank have been stripped and have been put through a “grind” effect in order to produce unique shapes that resemble bare metal. High amounts of detail and thought have been put into the paint job in order to give the Rocket X a one-of-a-kind look. You’ll also notice side panels that contain the number of the bike, as well as an aluminium name badge.

Finally, standard ABS and stopping power is provided by twin 320mm Nissin front discs, as well as a single 316mm rear disc, with both 4-piston and 2-piston fixed calipers respectively. You’re also ensured a comfortable ride with an upside-down 43mm fork and black spring preload adjustable twin shocks from Kayaba.

Bottom line: If the largest production engine ever made doesn’t get you excited, the fact that the Rocket X actually performs like its name should leave you wondering if you could actually take this one out on the track and pit it against some of the best sport bikes today. And, with only 500 produced, you should expect, come March, a line-up at our dealership like an Apple store on the day of the Iphone 7 release.

Who is this for: Hardcore collectors, die-hard Triumph fans and those who can handle 2000 of…. Anything really.
